Trulance (Plecanatide)
Trulance, with the active ingredient Plecanatide, is a prescription medication used to treat certain types of bowel disorders. It is primarily prescribed for chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) and irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) in adults. Plecanatide is a guanylate cyclase-C agonist that works by increasing intestinal fluid secretion and transit, facilitating bowel movements.
Indications
- Chronic Idiopathic Constipation (CIC) in adults.
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation (IBS-C) in adults.
Dosage and Administration:
- The recommended dose is 3 mg taken orally once daily, with or without food.
- Tablets should be swallowed whole, not crushed or chewed.
- For patients unable to swallow tablets, the tablet can be crushed and mixed with water or soft foods.
Contraindications:
- Patients under 6 years of age due to the risk of serious dehydration.
- Patients with known or suspected mechanical gastrointestinal obstruction.
Precautions:
- Use with caution in patients with severe renal impairment or severe hepatic impairment.
- Avoid use in patients 6 years to less than 18 years of age.
- Monitor for signs of excessive diarrhea or dehydration.
